Morrone Black & White Cookie

Giant Black & White Cookie
Giant Black & White Cookie

When Ashley comes to visit Fordham, you know we are going to find some awesome (or just unhealthy) food to eat. Following through on our tradition, Cerisse, Ashley, and I trekked over to Arthur Avenue to pick up a nice, hearty dinner of Chinese take out. On our way back to the dorm, we each picked up a GIANT black and white cookie from the Italian Pastry Shop, Morrone. I had never bought one of these cookies from an actual pastry shop so I was intrigued. After eating our Chinese and walking it off a bit, we came back to dig into our cookies while watching the classic, Pretty Woman. The smell of the icing was incredible and after hours of sitting in our bags (and probably on the shelf in the store), it still tasted fresh and delicate. The cookie itself was very thick but surprisingly not dry at all. I was very happy with our selection and I definitely recommend this awesome cookie if you’re ever around Little Italy in the Bronx. Until next time, wonderful Italian Arthur Avenue Bakeries! Happy eating, everyone!

Sleepy Bee Cafe

Seven Layer Trifle
Seven Layer Trifle

And we continue on with my Cincinnati eats! I finally got to try the absolutely adorable Sleepy Bee Cafe with my best friend, Morgan, and of course, her mom. It has become a tradition to get brunch with them when I come back home for breaks from school. But anyway, this place is really special because they use locally sourced, healthy ingredients. Most anything you eat here will make your body feel great. So, naturally after I ate my figure friendly egg white omelet with spinach, mushrooms, onions, avocado, and a side of roasted sweet potatoes, I had to ruin it with dessert. Morgan and I split this special of the day and tried to make her mom eat more than two bites (unsuccessfully). It is called the “Seven Layer Trifle” and oh was it delicious. The layers include: chocolate-coconut pudding, coconut flakes, vanilla cookie crumb, butterscotch pudding, chocolate cookie crumb, killer bee cookies, whipped cream, and finally a butterscotch-chocolate dusting (which does not count as a layer). Although I never really imagine loving a dessert with pudding, this was very tasty. Anyone around Cincinnati, please go try this cute, healthy, delicious restaurant. You will not be disappointed! Happy eating, everyone!
